Raise the Roof!

Danny House, Hurstpierpoint, on Saturday, 28 th August

Jazz vocalist Lou Beckerman, pianist Joss Peach and multi-talented friends are coming together in the beautiful setting of Danny House for this important fundraiser for South Downs Refugee Project.

The event promises to be a warm, vibrant and entertaining evening of music to lift the spirit. There’ll be a mix of jazz and folk – standards through to especially composed pieces for this event – all delivered with style! You can be assured of a warm welcome.

At the heart of Lou’s work has always been her love of music and her delight in sharing it with audiences. With her improvisational style and soulful sound, her repertoire covers some of the best loved jazz standards and contemporary compositions. Her career has included television, radio and recording.

Joss Peach’s career has seen him work with a wide variety of jazz ensembles across Europe. He now focuses most of his energies on composing for children’s TV for BBC, Sky and Sesame St, for which he won a BAFTA. Joss’s versatility and warm manner have made him a firm favourite. He loves to sing too so watch out for a duet or two…

Terry Pack, bassist, composer and band leader, has recorded and played across much of the world and in highly exalted company. He is a founder member of The Cloggz and his ‘unfeasibly large ensemble’ Trees. He has released acclaimed albums including ‘What Happens Now’ and ‘Palimpsest’.

Mike Reinstein – guitarist and singer – has been writing and performing songs all his adult life. Moving to Sussex with his wife Reina in 2006, he found a home for his unique music on Brighton’s Irregular Records label. He now has three critically acclaimed albums to his name as well as collections for children.

Reina Reinstein, daughter of comedy actor Sid James, started her musical career when she was five, playing the ukulele, then becoming a singer, songwriter and pianist in folk and rock bands. Now a successful author, she still works on musical arrangements and loves to sing with Mike.

Kate Hogg has studied and followed a musical career in Jazz, World and North Indian classical music. Her performances on bansuri, flute and sax have included the North Sea Jazz Festival. She has taught jazz improvisation and currently performs with her own Quartet and records with Blue Calluna and Trees.

Vocalist Sarah Carpenter initially trained as an actress. Her career has included Royal Shakespeare Company, West End theatre and television. She has studied classical Indian singing and has also presented her one-woman shows with an invented character, Daisy Pipperage, bringing a wide variety of story and song from the first half of the last century.
