Our huge thanks and congratualtions to a group of young group of hikers from Hassocks and Ditchling who completed a 10 mile sponsored walk last weekend in support of South Downs Refugee Project.

Well done! L-R: Jemima Hillier, Matilda Bailey, Rufus Bailey (top), Otto Hillier, Henry Bouchet & Sylvie Bouchet

In what we hope will become an annual event, the ‘2 Hills & 3 Mills challenge’ started in Ditchling, passing under Oldland Windmill, up and over Wolstonbury Hill, past the Jack & Jill windmills, and along to Ditchling Beacon before heading back down into Ditchling for some well-earned chips!

The group raised an incredible sum – just breaking the £3,000 mark, which will support the project towards their aims of welcoming a refugee family to the area, and helping them resettle into the community under the UK Government’s Community Sponsorship scheme.

“It was really tiring to walk so far in one day, but also fun because my friends came as well. Thank you to everyone who sponsored us, I’m really happy we raised the money. ”

Rufus Bailey, 7
