Hello friends,
Launch Meeting
Wed 15th Sept
United Reformed Church, Hassocks, 7pm-9pm.
The headline news for this project update is that we now have a date for our project ‘Launch meeting’.
Long delayed by social distancing restrictions, we’re looking forward to gathering together to examine how Community Sponsorship works, hear a refugee perspective on the process, from another group who has successfully resettled a family, as well as look at our progress thus far, and what the next steps are for us. Everyone is welcome, and there will be a chance to ask questions and share ideas on how to move forward.
Please join us! If you’re planning on attending it would be helpful if you could register on this event page, so that we have an idea of expected numbers.
Activity & Fundraising Update
The current fundraising sum stands at a fantastic £7500. 50% of our initial target!
A very special mention to the 6 x young hikers who completed the 10 mile ‘ 2 hills & 3 mills challenge’ back in July and raised over £3000 in sponsorship in the process.
A huge thanks to all sponsors of that challenge and, of course, to all those donating to the project directly.
It was great to be out and about at the Hassocks Village Market at the end of July, talking about the project and spreading word about the Launch!
In addition to the Launch evening there are a number of events we’d like to highlight which are either fundraisers, or in support of SDRP.
The Purple Carrot Cafe are generously supporting SDRP at the following events:
- 29th August – HaHa Hassocks presents ‘The End of Summer Special’30th August
- The Treason Show – Parodies LostTo book for these two events: https://www.tickettailor.com/events/purplecarrotevents
Another long-term date for the diary is the Hassocks Village Ceilidh, scheduled for November 13th in Adastra Hall and all in aid of South Downs Refugee Project.Featuring music and dance calling from the Black Cat Ceilidh Band, a bar and raffle, it promises to be an excellent evening. Put it in your diary – ticket details to follow!
And finally, we also wish our own Lou Beckerman ,with Joss Peach and friends, well for their ‘Raise the Roof’ fundraising concert on 28th August in Danny House. The concert is now sold out, and we wish all musicians and audience members a fabulous evening.
Very much looking forward to meeting some of you at the launch.
All best, Tom Bailey – SDRP Chair
